There’s a saying that “everything happens for a reason” and this was clearly reflected in Zayn Malik’s (aged 23) departure from the One Direction band (1D) last year.
The 2010 X Factor participant revealed he had mixed feelings about being a part of One Direction “from the beginning,” and that his decision to quit in March, 2015 happened impulsively.
During and interview with New York Daily News on November 18, 2015, Malik said “there was never any room for me to experiment creatively in the band. I woke up on that morning, if I’m being completely honest with you, and was like, I need to go home. I just need to be me now, because I’ve had enough.”
Malik is currently a solo music artist and not long after leaving One Direction, Malik launched his solo music career with a demo version of “I Don’t Mind,” which was leaked online by producer Naughty Boy. Official singles soon followed, including “Pillowtalk” and “It’s You.” Both of these tracks were featured on his first album, Mind of Mine, which debuted in March 2016.
